Our Heritage In Your Hands - Have YOUR Say
Do you want to influence the look and feel of Tavistock, and even more importantly, help to raise the funds needed to keep Tavistock the way you want it?
A number of organisations in Tavistock are working towards producing a detailed assessment and plan for the future management of the town's beautiful Conservation Area which has special architectural and historic interest. In fact, the area now has international importance as it is part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining World Heritage site.
The plan examines what needs to happen to protect and enhance the Conservation Area's special features in the future. This includes proposed changes to the boundary of the Conservation Area to take in more sites and properties.
All the documents about the Tavistock Conservation Area Management Plan are available here - http://www.westdevon.gov.uk/doc.asp?doc=15799&cat=899
Thanks to the Tavistock Times, you can complete the questionnaire online here - http://www.tavistock-today.co.uk/tn/heritage.cfm.
Please complete the questionnaire by December 5, 2008.
A 12 week consultation period on draft Boundary Committee proposals to reorganise local government in Devon came to an end on Friday September 26, 2008. However, the Boundary Committee has said it will try to take in to account any submissions which are received after this date.
The consultation focused on the Boundary Committee's view that the people of Devon would be best served by a unitary authority covering the whole of the county. Under the proposal, Plymouth and Torbay's boundaries would be left unchanged.
The Committee also said it sees merit in another pattern of unitary local government in Devon – one covering Exeter and Exmouth and one covering the rest of Devon, again with no changes to Plymouth and Torbays boundaries. Click here for full details of the Boundary Committee's Devon proposal.
Throughout the summer West Devon Borough Council has been gauging the views of its residents through talking to individuals and organisations, holding public meetings, staging exhibitions and taking part in many events.
Overwhelming public concern has shaped the Council's response in opposing the draft proposals.
