18/02/10 - General Election Information for West Devon Residents
West Devon residents need to be aware that the Borough now falls within two constituencies when the next General Election is held.
Although the date has still to be announced, the election must be held this year by Thursday June 3.
The boundary for the new Central Devon seat runs alongside the Torridge and West Devon one and some residents will notice that their usual parliamentary constituency will have changed.
Areas that used to be in the Torridge and West Devon constituency and have moved into Central Devon are the wards of Chagford, Drewsteignton, Exbourne, Hatherleigh, Lew Valley, North Tawton, Okehampton and South Tawton. The remaining wards will be in the Torridge and West Devon constituency.
The Buckland Monachorum ward - which includes Yelverton, Buckland Monachorum, Crapstone, Clearbrook and Milton Combe - which was previously in the Plymouth South West constituency has now been moved in to the Torridge and West Devon constituency.
West Devon Borough Council is the lead authority for the new Central Devon constituency, and Torridge District Council will be organising the Torridge and West Devon seat.
Maps of both constituencies are on display at West Devon Borough Council's offices at Kilworthy Park, Tavistock and St James Street, Okehampton. They are also on display at Tavistock and Okehampton libraries. The maps can also be viewed on the Council's website at www.westdevon.gov.uk/generalelection2010
For further information call the Council's Elections Office on 01822 813665.
