25/01/10 - Local pupils rap about recycling with Recycler the Robot
Recycler the rapping robot visited three schools in Tavistock last week to spread the word about recycling through his funky interactive show.
Tavistock Primary, St Peters and Whitchurch played host to Recycler and his show, which tells pupils and teachers all about the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle with help from Shirley Barre, Education Officer for Waste Watch, and a very catchy toe tapping rap! Throughout the performance Recycler showed the children how they can reduce their waste, how they can recycle locally, and put the 3Rs into practice at home and school.
Terri Easton, Waste Education Officer for West Devon Borough Council said: "Over one tonne of waste each year is thrown away by every UK household and more than half of this could be recycled. Through Recycler and his show the children learn about how important it is to reduce waste and to recycle as much as possible, at home and at school. Joining in with Recycler's rap and watching the games, props and role-plays is a great way for the children to remember important messages and take them home."
Recycler is funded by Devon County Council and managed by Waste Watch a UK Environmental Charity who provides advice and support through education and training.
If your school is interested in hosting a waste education workshop please contact Terri Easton on 01822 813570.
